With Agency Spotlight, we’re featuring the independent PR and marketing agencies that Fashionista loves to work with. Meet the hardworking professionals behind them and discover what it really takes to make it in fashion publicity.
At just 26, Rachel Granger has made a lasting impression on the publicity industry via her innovative approaches to everything from activations to gifting. Her agency, Blue Jeans PR opened in 2023 and is based in Los Angeles, the name inspired by the founder’s Texan roots and the song “Cowboy in L.A.”
“After years of working in traditional PR settings, I realized I was ready to build something that reflected those values and showed clients that PR didn’t have to be a pain point. I had experience in nearly every corner of the PR industry from print and digital press, event production, celebrity seeding and influencer marketing, to crisis management, shoot production, social strategy, content creation and brand development. I built the agency from scratch, with no outside investment and clients who have all found us through word of mouth,” says the founder.
Granger’s extensive experience in the industry primed her for her own agency. She cites advice she received from industry great Zack Tanck during her internship with Bollare (another esteemed press agency located on Santa Monica Boulevard.) “‘Don’t let this industry harden you,'” he told Granger. “To this day, it’s the best advice I’ve ever been given in regards to PR and advice I often remind myself of. You don’t need to change who you are or dim your values to fit into this industry. You can be kind and powerful at the same time. You can take criticism and make mistakes and still be amazing at what you do.”
Granger’s “kindness first” attitude has propelled her success and even brought in new clients where she wasn’t even looking. Some of Granger’s most notable clients include The Bar, Tezza and Rumored, the latter of which the firm leveraged into stardom with the help Miss Taylor Swift who’s worn Rumored’s Be Mine top twice. “We turned those moments into headlines across People, Page Six, Us Weekly, Town & Country, Elite Daily and more, all while maintaining the brand’s authenticity and female-forward team narrative.”
Granger has trusted her intuition and knows not every pairing can equal a win. “Not every opportunity is the right opportunity for you, just as not every client is the right client for you. We all have different strengths in this industry and it’s okay to say ‘no.'”
The founder also advises against getting caught up in flashy aesthetics. “Your reputation will be your greatest asset. What’s most important: core values, a strong moral compass and the willingness to work harder than everyone else. What’s not important: a fancy office space or massive overhead.”
